A confidential appointment on behalf of a high-profile private individual with business interests across media, manufacturing and hospitality. The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Director in maintaining the day-to-day financial operations of a busy private office, with a particular focus on high-volume transactional processing, VAT compliance, and accurate bookkeeping across multiple businesses and entities.
Key Responsibilities:
Reconcile a high volume of bank (and equivalent) transactions efficiently across multiple entities, ensuring timely coding and approval.
Manage accounts payable and receivable ledgers, including supplier statement reconciliations and chasing of outstanding balances.
Process employee expenses, credit card reconciliations, and petty cash.
Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements.
Maintain VAT records, reconcile VAT control accounts, and support any VAT queries or inspections as required.
Assist with payroll processing and liaise with external payroll providers to ensure timely and accurate payments.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledgers; perform regular bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies.
Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly management accounts, accruals, prepayments, and journals.
Producing management accounts for one or more allocated businesses, including Balance Sheet support and P&L movement analytical reviews.
Maintain Fixed Assets schedules across the group.
Assist with year-end close processes and liaise with auditors to provide supporting documentation as required.
Handle all financial matters with absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times.
Skills & Experience:
Part-qualified or AAT-qualified accountant; actively studying towards ACA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred.
Solid experience in a transactional finance or assistant accountant role, ideally within a private office, media, entertainment, or multi-entity environment.
Strong working knowledge of VAT legislation and experience preparing VAT returns.
High attention to detail with the ability to process large volumes of transactions accurately and at pace.
Proficient in Xero and confident in Excel.
