Assistant Manager – The Black Heart, Camden.

£30,000 per annum

40 hours per week

The Black Heart is a fun and raucous bar and rock music venue, serving excellent booze and beers and showcasing the best of the underground heavy music scene.

We have 16 taps, about 20 lines of bottles and cans and 40 - 50 spirits. Plenty of accessible beers but also loads of special stuff from the best breweries in the world.

Whether slinging out 10 pints of house lager or introducing new styles of beer to someone eager to taste more, we focus on approachable, fun and engaging service. Expect super rammed weekend shifts where speed and efficiency are the name of the game whilst at the same time facilitating the very good time that we have a reputation for. The rest of the week is very gig-dependent, with some big nights and some more chilled. Whichever the type of night, we pride ourselves on the strength of the community around the Black Heart.

We’re looking for a new Assistant Manager who will work closely with the General Manager to run all aspects of the business. You will need to have a strong work ethic, being prepared to run very busy shifts, and lead from the front in both service and cleaning. In addition to the normal daily and weekly management tasks, the AM will have a big role in selecting beer and other products for the bar, building and maintaining strong relationships with small independent producers. Alongside the music, shows and atmosphere, having the best beers possible is a significant part of our identity. Beyond this we see the AM having significant creative input into driving the business forwards once fully trained. We do not want a person to do all the hardest shifts and the most boring management jobs. We want a future GM who can really feel part of the senior management team, and share the fun jobs as well as the less fun ones.

Starting salary is £30,000 per annum based on 40 hours a week. There is a performance related bonus scheme paid out monthly and quarterly which offers the potential for an extra £5,000 per annum.
